What is a Fraud Alert Scam?
What is a Fraud Alert Scam?
This scam combines phishing, vishing, and MFA (multi-factor authentication) to gain unauthorized access to accounts.
How does the scam work?
Fraudsters may contact you by phone, text, or email pretending to be from Cove Federal Credit Union, asking for a verification code or requesting that you “approve” a login or transaction. Please remember: We will never ask you to share a one-time passcode, verification code, or to approve a login or transaction while you're on a call. If someone is asking you for a code we sent to your phone or email, they are trying to access your account. Common scam phrases to watch for:- “We detected fraud — read us the code we just sent.”
- “To cancel the charge, I’ll need the 6-digit code you received.”
- “Press approve on your device to verify your identity.” Don’t fall for it — never share your codes with anyone.
- Do not respond to the request.
- Do not share or enter any codes.
- Call Cove FCU directly at 859-292-9000— not the number given in the message.
How Cove FCU protects your accounts:
